southwest-plain.pngI’m here at the airport in Portland getting ready to go down to Sac then it’s east to Auburn. As it would turn out PDX Airport has free internet. How nice of them.

I thought I would leave Portland in style by giving you a little bit of random information. Hope you like it. I found the first one to be the most interesting.

  1. Portland was almost “Boston, Oregon”!

Portland was named by the flip of a coin by its two original settlers, Asa Lovejoy and Francis W. Pettygrove. Lovejoy wanted to name the new settlement after his hometown of Boston; Pettygrove wanted to name it after his hometown of Portland, Maine. Pettygrove won the coin toss, best two out of three.

  2. Portland’s Two Rivers:

The Willamette River (pronounced “will-AAAAAH-met”) divides Portland into its east and west sections; “Downtown” is technically only the part on the west side of the river. About seven miles north of downtown, the mighty Columbia River divides the state of Oregon and the state of Washington.

  3. No Sales Tax

Oregon is one of those rare states that has no sales tax (except on hotels and car rentals). We do make up for it by having a fairly high income tax (9%). However, when you weigh the overall tax burden of Oregon, we usually come out about average of all the 50 states.

  4. Can’t pump your own gas.

Oregon is one of only two states (New Jersey is the other) where ordinary people can’t pump their own gas - you must have an attendant do it. I’m not kidding!!! Native Oregonians seem to love this tradition and every attempt to get rid of this rule has been defeated. It is kind of nice in the winter time when it’s cold and you don’t want to stand in the rain and pump your gas or just don’t want to get your hands dirty.

  5. White city:

Portland is the whitest big city in the US, according to recent census data (over 70% white). Today Portland is considered liberal and tolerant - although it’s easier to be “tolerant” when most people are of the same race. But, Portland has a racist past that consigned blacks to a few neighborhoods in NE Portland. For better or worse, today those black neighborhoods are becoming more and more white (”gentrified”) as housing prices skyrocket in Portland’s urban neighborhoods, enticing poor and middle class homeowners in these neighborhoods to sell out.

l_51aa54471e10e62e4f46d9c499213a0a.jpgPeople, This is Chris Wilson.

I’ve know Chris since I was 5, we grew up in the same town, went to the same school, and got in trouble with the same principle. Thing is, after High School we kept in touch. We both went our own ways here and there but some how we always managed to meet at the park for Disc Golf.

I lived with Chris here in Portland for about two years, I also lived with Chris a couple of other times in the past. Him and I have been through a lot of interesting times, and I don’t think there will ever be a day when I can’t just pick up the phone and give him a call as if we hung out yesterday. (which we actually did hang out yesterday)

I would have to say that it’s a fair bet that Chris probably knows me better than just about everyone. There are a few that probably know me better, but who’s counting.

I’m really going to miss Chris when I leave Portland, we had a lot of good time and a few crazy ones. He’ll always be one of my best friends, one of those people you can call up and actually talk about life. It’s really rare these days that anyone gets a chance to know a person as long as I’ve know Chris. I’m thankful for that.

This is Pier Park from the St Johns area of Portland. I went to the park today with my good friend Chris, and had one last round. We had a great time, and I’m really going to miss this park. One of the best parks in the Portland area.

If you are ever in Portland and you want to go for a nice walk this is a good place to go.

I’ll be doing Positive Post Tuesday on Chris, just so there is a little correlation.

Portlands-leaning-buildings.jpgAs we were leaving Portland this morning I stuck my phone out the window and snapped a few shots. As it would seem, Portland must have been having an earth quake. It looks like the building are leaning.

I was sitting in my Friends car this morning, catching a ride home from the night before. (Jim and Lindsey) We were headed south on I205 as we were passing Oregon City by the Clackamas River. I started to think about all the people I’ve met here and all the fun time I’ve had with my friends.

We had a bbq Saturday night and a lot of my friends from my old job came over and we all hung out and had a good time. But, I started to realize, again, that there is a good chance that I wont see many of these people ever again. Perhaps I’ll move back to Portland in the future, maybe not. One thing is for sure, take the chance while you have it and hang out with your friends. Perhaps you’ll never move, but I don’t think we really ever know what is going to happen.

mens.jpgI need some shorts because the weather is supposed to take a hike north to about 90 - 95 on Friday. I’m still a little skeptical about wether or not this is really going to happen, but I should be prepaid by at least having one pair of shorts.

Normally I just cut off the pair of pants that are the most destroyed, but so far this year it’s just not in the cards. I think I’ll have to make a trip to the old GoodWill and see what’s up.

I’m honestly not that excited about the heat that’s coming for about a day, but I guess it’s to be expected. Summer is almost here and I get the feeling Tennessee is going to be a bit hotter than Portland.

Is there anything special that you do to get ready for summer. Making a pair of cut off is about all I can think of.

Friday is over, and I am a little too tired to be awake, but I am also sad that it’s over. What a day it was. (I hope this is what Tennessee will be like, doing stuff all the time) I don’t honestly get out of the house that much. I go to the grocery store, to the mail box and occasionally the dumpster when its time to take out the trash.

The Music Industry is a fast pace fun lifestyle that I like to jump into every now and then. It’s fun to be apart of all the commotion. I also got to meat two other bloggers, First was Tyler Braun who I mentioned in an earlier post, and later I met Samantha Crandall. Both of which were really good people, and I’m glad to have me them.

Here’s a quick bullet list of how yesterday went down. We had fun. :-)

  • Wake up 7am
  • Email, Blog, RSS, Coffee…
  • Talk
  • Prep Camera, Call Camera People, Freak-out about Camera
  • Get more Coffee….
  • Target, get DV Tapes
  • Sip Coffee, Drive to Church, Get Lost
  • Find Church
  • Set up: Camera, Computers, Cables, Audio, Stream, Blog & Freak-out
  • Got Camera to Work, Stream some Video, There was much Rejoicing
  • Food, Qdoba, Talking, Brody, Tyler Braun, back to Church
  • Double check Audio, Talk to Phil, Watch setup crew, read blogs and stuff
  • Show Started, Show was Amazing, Stream Live Video, Chat with Web Audience
  • Show ended
  • Hang out, Talk, Samantha Crandall & Friend (I’m retarded with names and generally retarded)
  • Go Home, Talk, Sleep

Honestly it really wasn’t that busy, but I just don’t think I could be a rock-star. I like to hear that sound that silence makes. If you happen to see the show Via Web Stream, What Did You Think?

brody-scoot.jpgSo Brody flew in to Portland today, not too much wear and tear to show. He only got lost once and it’s kinda my fault. (i’ll take the blame) We immediately took off for Qdoba to get a burrito, I think he felt the need for pay back. Read his post if you want to understand that.

So, yeah Brody is in town and were going to meet up with Phil tomorrow and check out his show. Were going to get some video, so if you have a few minutes check out his blog at 7:30. You’ll be sure to see something. Maybe i’ll even turn on my Mogulus as a kind of back stage pass.

So check it out, and i”ll get back to you.
