Next Step…
At this point you have to concider your needs, and ask yourself a few questions.
- What type of blogger am I?
- Do I need to pay $money for my blog?
- Can I afford $175 to have a the freedom and independence I’m looking for?
- Do I have the time and energy to follow through with this process? (which can be done in less than 3hrs)
- Do I think I’ll be blogging two years from now?
These are all very important questions to think about before paying $money to get something you can get for free. All these questions were simple for me because I love to tear apart websites, and when i found out about the capabilities of wordpress I couldnt help but go for it. I ran into some serious walls and chewed at my fingers for a little while figuring it all out. (which is part of the reason for this series) But, just about anything you will need to know can be found at WordPress.org. They have a wonderful selection of Documents and a huge archive of Support Forum Q&A. So far I’ve been able to find everything I’ve needed to know just by doing searches.
Hosting: Why BlueHost
BlueHost is at the top of the list for recommended hosting for a Wordpress site. Seriously check it out. I know this sounds like advertising but they will give you a free domain name when you sign up for their service. Their service is great and you’re guaranteed compatibility with WordPress. Oh and if the word ‘Database’ scares you dont be worried the whole database process is about 5min.
Domain Name
This is one topic that I am not going to get into apart from the fact that you should always get your domain name at the same company that you get your hosting. (I hate dealing with DNS issues) But, if you have already got one it will be ok. One of the first questions that BlueHost asks you is if you already have one. They’ll walk you through the entire process.
At this point, think about what you need and don’t need. Weigh the costs and the time involved.
Next time… Yes, it’s really that easy. I’ll even use Pictures
