Thoughts on Belief

The Church is an odd Beast of People and their individual lives. Individuality of thought is a strength, and while being fed is nice, feeding yourself is more rewarding. Im pretty sure we can all agree on that.

I was out reading posts this morning and there were two I read that got my brain gears to turn.

  1. manofdepravity (Tyler Braun)
    • What is Wrong with the Church?

I read Tyler’s post first, which got me thinking about what I thought was wrong with the Church. I thought about a lot of different issues that came to mind, and all the reasons Church has the ability to bug me. I also thought about all the reasons for fellowship.

  2. withoutwax (Pete Wilson)

Both of these post really got me thinking about the fact that I haven’t been connected to a Church in over 4yrs. That’s a long time I know. I don’t advise that kind of a break from the Church community with out sufficient cause. Although I must admit, I’ve gained a new perspective and found a new desire for fellowship. Perhaps it’s a prodigal son type of situation, but I don’t like to put myself in the Bible stories too much. and no I am not a new believer

Here’s what I’m thinking (pete)…We Live, We Choose, then We’re Judged. Nothing escapes the Book of Life. And, while we can hide our Choices behind the difficulties of this Life, good people do unspeakable things. I’m thinking the equality of sin is never apparent because the wave of it’s effect is measured by our approval.

If Sin was Dirt, and you wore your Sin daily, How dirty would you be. I’m pretty freaking dirty, in fact I probably leave a trail.

Good thoughts Randy. Hopefully I didn’t come off as angry in my post. I wasn’t trying to call out people who aren’t going to church, but rather encourage people to view church in a different light.

we’d all be dirty, i know i would be filthy. i make so many stupid choices every day, it’s horrible. but that’s why christ died for us. so that when god looks at us he see’s jesus, the perfect lamb of god, not our filthy mess.
in human eyes, sin is measurable. lying is not as bad as stealing. stealing is not as bad as killing, etc…. but to god, it’s all the same. no sin is any worse or better than any other. i think once we realize that it makes it easier to stop judging others through our human eyes and start loving them through jesus’ eyes.

Tyler - Not at all, I thought it was good post, it got me thinking. And it definitely stirred my thought about the church. Well done.

    Sammi - I agree, couldn’t say it better… :-)

    Wow….
Okay, I live in a small town, with very no churches that meet my “standards” for a church…. (to understand that statement, i’ve been reading alot about church what church is, how it should work etc) I don’t think that I can blame some people for not wanting to attend church; however, we are called to it.

I have some Theological training so I get kind of picky and know exactly what I believe and why, so no offense….

When it comes to sin… I believe that we are totally depraved… meaning that if sin were dirt we’d be dead… because it effects every aspect of our lives! we are totally given over to it!

    HOWEVER

The Cross is good! God did so much more on the cross that cleanse our sin debt! (notice not forgotten but cleansed Read 1 John 3) God is glorified by our trust in him! Go see Narnia! Oh my goodness! I watched it with my wife yesterday (In a High Def Theater!) And it revealed so much to me about the Great King! and how I can’t wait to live in His kingdom!!!
