I had a conversation with friend of mine today about blogging and what it does, how it works, who’s good at it, why i blog, why he blogs, and all types of thing about blogging. We really didnt come to any major conclusions or final answers, but we did help define our concept of why blog and what makes for a blog I would read.
The general topic of the conversation was, ‘is there competition amongst bloggers?’ My initial reaction was, ‘competition? who’s competing and what are they competing for?’ Stats, Page Views & the ability to say they did it first… “huh?” i thought & we both chuckled…
So here’s my thought, Plain & Simple…
Over the next week or so think about why you blog. After you’ve done a little blog-soul searching tell your readers why you write to them. Some of you might not need to do this, some of you that i read about do this all the time, and its a huge reason why i read about you. None the less, Community is the heart of the blogosphere and where would we be with out our readers.
I wont deny that i look at my stats at least every other day and I like to know how many people read a post and even better i really appreciate it when people comment. But!!! over the last few months since ive been posting and reading on a more consistent basis ive come to know about a dozen people that i would like to hang out with. Thats what does it for me, meeting people that i would call up to hang out with.
So sit back and think about it. If you’re more worried about traffic than content or if you’re more concentrated on your stats than you’re conversations with other bloggers than perhaps you should slow down and have some reflection time.

I LOVE the community that blogging has given me. That is what it is about for me. I love the place we can all come talk honestly and discuss. I have met some amazing people over the last year and I could dare say that some will become closer than many I have known face to face.
I love the community!

I’ve met tons of people that I would have never met if I didn’t blog. Plus I love the challenge of coming up with something to write every day. It’s a personal test for me to think through things to write about. That and it’s fun. It’s fun to interact with people I may never know.

Ditto everything Brody said. Plus, I use my blog to keep family and friends updated on things that are going on, ask for prayer, and celebrate things.
